  6. ‘Karnataka Bhashabhushana’ is the first available text on Kannada grammar apart from stray references in ‘Kavirajamarga’. This work contains ten chapters and is made up  of 269 sutras written in Sanskrit. The chapters are Sanjnaa, Sandhi, vibhakti, karaka, shabdareeti, Samasa, Taddhita, Akhyata, Avyaya and Nipatha. They give us a fair idea of the morphological and phological systems of Kannada. Explanatory notes are given in detail to each and every sutra. However the illustrations are chosen from Kannada literary texts. As usual these notes prove to be an important source to know about Kannada literature that existed prior to ‘Kavirajamarga’. Nagavarma’s  grammar is influenced by the ‘Katantra Vyakarana’ of Sanskrit by Sharvavarma. Consequently this bias has resulted in a mal representation of Kannada realities and its Dravidian antecedents.
