  6. Nandi Chandornava is a short treatise on prosody written by a scholar who was well versed in Telugu as well as Kannada. His fore fathers were based in ‘darUru, and ‘viDapalUru’ villages in South Karnataka. This Veerashaiva scholar draws a lot of material from the earlier work ‘Kavijihvabandhana’ by Ishvara Kavi. This work contains three chapters constituting 191 poems. Many poems are composed in the meter which they are defining. This practice of the definition itself being an illustration is called, ‘lakshyalakshaNa samanvaya’. In addition to the routine material provided in any text book of Kannada prosody, ‘Nandi Chandornava delineates Telugu prosodic forms such as ‘tETa gIti’, ‘vaDi sIsa’ and “ATavaladi’. These are very important because of their Dravidian ancestry. Of course Veerabhadra does not lag behind others in ascribing astrological signs and characteristics to metrical forms. He continues the tradition and offers some additional information that could be of some use for a more detailed probing of Dravidian elements in Kannada prosody.
