6. ‘Rasaratnakara’ is a treatise on poetics written by Salva a Jaina poet belonging to the 16^th century. He has written two more works called ‘Salva Bharatha’ and ‘Vaidya Sangatya’ in addition to ‘Rasaratnakara’. Rasaratnakara, as the name implies is essentially a detailed presentation of the concept of Rasa as evolved in Sanskrit poetics. He is indebted to scholars such as Rudrabhatta, Amritanandi, and Hemachandra. He illustrates his work by examples from Kannada poets such as Nagachandra, Pampa and Ranna. Occasionally Sanskrit examples are given in their translated version.

‘Rasaratnakara’ is divided in to four sections namely ‘shrungAra prapanca’, ‘nAyakanAyikA prakAra’, ‘navarasaprakaraNa’ and ‘vyabhicAribAva’. This work is supplemented by ‘shAradAvilAsa’ which delineates the concept of ‘dhvani’.

7. About 120 poems from the first chapter were published in a periodical called ‘budhajana mnOranjini’ in 1893. The complete work was published in 1932 by the University of Madras in 1932. It was edited by A.Venkata Rao and H.Shesha Iyyengar. It was published in 1971 by Samaja Pustakalaya, Dharawada and it was edited by Ramachandra Kottalagi. The third edition which is also the latest has come out in 1972 edited by H.K.Narasimhegouda.
